For more than seven years, the Cullman Family Award for Excellence in Physician Communication has honored the Mount Sinai Health System physicians and practice providers who have demonstrated excellent communication during clinical practice. This year, 50 outstanding Mount Sinai providers were honored, including 21 who were previous recipients.
The recipients of the award are ranked in the top one percent nationally in provider communication for 2022 as measured by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service’s Clinician and Group Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CG CAHPS) patient experience survey. The awards were based entirely on patient feedback and their comments, like these from grateful patients:
“I'm really excited for him to be honored in helping so many children have healthy hearts and go on to live better lives because of it.”
“My daughter had had numerous medical issues for 16-plus years, and we didn't have an answer. I always felt like there was some other underlying reason for everything that was happening to her. The doctor was finally able to put a name to what I felt all along.”
“We have been so fortunate to be patients of his for the last couple of years, and I say 'we' because it really is a family affair here. He really does not only treat the patients, but treats the entire family as a unit, which has been really a godsend for our family.”
The awardees were honored in a virtual ceremony on Wednesday, November 2. The event was hosted by Stephen Fecteau, Senior Manager, Talent Development and Learning, and Erica Rubinstein, MS, LCSW, CPXP, Vice President of Service Excellence and Patient Experience.
“It's truly an exceptional accomplishment," Ms. Rubinstein says. "These individuals have been leading the way for all of us as they exemplify the values of our Health System consistently and as part of their daily practice. We want to thank all of them for embodying those values—safety, equity, agility, creativity, empathy, and teamwork. They do this each and every day.”
"I cried with gratitude every time I spoke to one of the doctors. I felt that they listened to me and offered good advice. I felt cared for, encouraged, and empowered by all of them. I want to make a special point to say that I feel that Dr. Kundu is one of the reasons why I'm alive and made it through emergency surgery. I couldn't imagine going through the pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum surgery with anyone else. She is an incredible doctor with a giant heart."
