The world of psychedelics for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has grown over the past year, and Mount Sinai remains at the forefront of this development. Under the leadership of Rachel Yehuda, PhD, our center for psychedelic research has expanded into a brand-new facility in Upper Manhattan and received a foundational gift from The Bob and Renee Parsons Foundation. This gift will enable our facility - The Parsons Research Center for Psychedelic Healing - to treat more patients and veterans with PTSD, and propel our understanding of psychedelic-assisted therapy.
Our Department is positioned to train the next generation of clinicians and researchers even as the field of psychiatric care evolves. The Mount Sinai-Behavioral Health Center (MSBHC), which opened in 2023, now serves as a main clinical rotation site for the Psychiatry Residency Program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Our trainees treat New York’s diverse patient population at both The Mount Sinai Hospital and our standalone psychiatric center, MSBHC. Mount Sinai is home to the largest psychiatry residency program in the country, which you can learn more about in this report.
As we begin 2025, we remain committed to pushing the envelope with research and providing exceptional care for our patients with the best possible outcomes. To that end, I am pleased to announce that we have added two new Vice Chair positions to our leadership team. James Murrough, MD, who leads the Depression and Anxiety Center, will oversee our portfolio of clinical research, and Shilpa Taufique, PhD, the Department’s Chief Psychologist, will lead our faculty development efforts.
The field of psychiatry is always evolving. There are new treatments available, groundbreaking clinical trials starting, and innovative models of care launching. We are excited about the future at Mount Sinai and beyond.
