I am proud to share some of our achievements in skilled, compassionate care and high-impact research:
The Mount Sinai-Rainbow Clinic, which I co-lead with Noël Strong, MD, was the first dedicated center in the United States providing specialized care to patients who experienced a stillbirth, miscarriage, or a neonatal loss. Now the model is spreading across the country, helping more women achieve a successful pregnancy after loss.
A multidisciplinary team successfully performed the Mount Sinai Health System’s first ovarian tissue cryopreservation procedure, removing ovarian tissue from a young cancer patient undergoing a C-birth, giving her the hope of future children.
This report features a new Research Roundup, which highlights significant publications by the teams led by Stephanie V. Blank, MD, Dmitriy Zamarin, MD, PhD, Leslee Shaw, PhD, Angela Bianco, MD, and more.
Eugenia Alessandra E. Alleva Bonomi, MD, MSc, is leading the development of two tools to expedite identifying heavy menstrual bleeding—an understudied and undertreated condition. The project is part of “The Missed Vital Sign,” a multisite program funded by the nonprofit group Wellcome Leap, which awarded Dr. Alleva a contract for this research in 2025.
Andrei Rebarber, MD, and Jennifer Lam-Rachlin, MD, led a study that used artificial intelligence technology to significantly improve the detection rates of ultrasound findings suspicious for major congenital heart defects. And Mount Sinai-affiliated Carnegie Imaging for Women became the first in the city to deploy this FDA-approved tool.
In addition, our residency programs—led by Farida Nentin, MD, at The Mount Sinai Hospital and Barbara Deli, MD, at Mount Sinai West—continued to prepare future leaders in obstetrics and gynecology, with robust clinical training , as well as broad exposure to subspecialties and fellowships in complex family planning, gynecologic oncology, maternal-fetal medicine, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery.
We invite you to explore our 2026 Specialty Report to learn more about Mount Sinai and our commitment to understanding and elevating the distinctive health care needs of women, serving as a health care partner with women for their entire lives.
