This painting is a whimsical depiction of neurons within the forebrain. Their soft edges and blue and green tones are meant to mimic nature and show how neurons in our brain resemble trees in a forest. Trees communicate with each other through their roots and branches. Similarly, neurons communicate with each other through dendrites and synapses.

The painting was done on a wood panel with oil paint by medical illustrator Ni-ka Ford, a member of the Instructional Technology Group at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
