The Enduring Commitment to Diversity in Neuroscience at The Friedman Brain Institute

THIS FRIEDMAN BRAIN Institute (FBI) program, launched at a Town Hall in 2015, has blossomed into a multifaceted initiative, which includes a newsletter along with provocative workshops, lectures, and other engaging events, as it continues to expand.

It was created to promote an exciting, equitable, collaborative, diverse, and inclusive environment to empower all members of Mount Sinai’s neuroscience community to thrive while contributing to scientific discovery and clinical translation. The initiative is embedded within the FBI’s ultimate mission to fully understand brain and nervous system function and develop therapies and cures for diseases along with preventive measures.

World-renowned speakers from Mount Sinai and other distinguished institutions have been invited to discuss provocative topics on “Social Discrimination and Its Association With Brain Function,” “Impact of Racism on Mental Health,” and “Anti-Asian Hate: A Public Health Crisis,” for example.

As the program moves into its eighth year, the FBI will continue to develop initiatives that will build on these initial successes and work relentlessly to overcome the obstacles and barriers that remain in creating a more inclusive culture.

Everyone is invited to support these efforts! Visit the DiverseBrains website and follow DiverseBrains on Twitter to learn more about the program’s mission, team, events, awards, and accomplishments—and, importantly, to discover the various opportunities that exist for all interested participants.
